Description
The sterile, disposable, Cusco vaginal specula are medical instruments made fromrobust, transparent plastic. They are generally used in gynaecology, e.g. in pap smears or to examine the cervix uteri.
To perform gynaecological examinations, the speculum or dilator is inserted in the patient’s vagina and the blades are dilated. Alocking screwlocks the speculum in the desired position and allows the doctor to perform treatments or examinations. Afterwards, the screw is loosened in order to remove the instrument.
In contrast to standard stainless steel specula, the sterile, disposable, plastic spreaders do not need to be heated before treatment and they don’t need to be cleaned or reprocessed. Additionally, the risk of cross-contamination or infectious transmission is ruled out, as the single-use instruments aresterile packagedand disposed of immediately after use. The disposable plastic specula are available in threecolour-codedsizes to allow for easy recognition.
