How to use D.I.C. Trach Tubes?

  • Make sure the patient is in a comfortable position, and their neck is extended slightly. Clean the area around the tracheostomy site using sterile techniques.
  • Assemble the tracheostomy tube by attaching the inner cannula to the outer tube. Make sure the cuff is deflated.
  • Hold the tracheostomy tube at a 90-degree angle to the patient’s neck, and insert it into the tracheostomy site. Gently rotate the tube as you insert it, and stop when the flange (the wider part of the tube) is against the patient’s neck.
  • Inflate the cuff using the provided syringe, following the manufacturer’s instructions. This creates a seal around the trachea, minimizing the risk of air leakage.
  • Use a stethoscope to listen to the patient’s breathing and check for any air leaks around the cuff. Also, check the tube’s placement to ensure it is not pressing against the trachea.
  • Connect the breathing equipment to the tracheostomy tube, such as an oxygen mask or ventilator, as needed.
  • It is important to regularly check and clean the tracheostomy tube, as directed by the healthcare professional. The inner cannula can be removed and replaced with a new one when necessary.
